First Amendment

The First Amendment – What it guarantees us as American

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” 

The First Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.The Five Freedoms guaranteed us by the First Amendment to the US Constitution are:

  • Freedom of Religion
  • Freedom of Speech
  • Freedom of the Press
  • Freedom to Assemble Peaceably
  • Freedom to Petition the Government for a Redress of Grievances
